What a Bible app blocker actually does

Most app blockers work on time. You set a limit, the limit runs out, a screen tells you to stop. The weakness is that the same screen usually has a button that lets you keep going, and by 7am you have learned exactly where that button is.

A Bible app blocker changes what the unlock costs. Instead of waiting out a timer or tapping past a warning, you open your Bible. Writing also takes just long enough to change the morning. A short psalm takes three or four minutes by hand. By the time you finish, the reflex that reached for the phone has passed, and you have read, thought about and copied out a piece of Scripture. Leave messaging apps unlocked. The people who need to reach you should be able to, and locking Messages tends to make you resent the whole setup within a week. Lock the feeds, not the phone.

Privacy: nothing leaves your phone

The Doorpost has no account to create, shows no ads, and runs no analytics or tracking. The App Store privacy label says the developer collects no data, and the app makes no network requests at all. Turn on Airplane Mode and it still works.

The verses you write and your day count are stored only on your device. Uninstall the app and they are gone with it. That is by design: it is the opposite of the apps it closes, with nothing to perform and nothing to protect.
