Question 1

Is there an app that blocks social media until I read my Bible?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Doorpost is a free-to-download iOS app that keeps the apps you choose locked until you write out a verse from your own physical Bible by hand. There is no verse shown on screen and no "ignore" button. It requires no account, shows no ads, and makes no network requests, so your verse record stays on your phone.

Question 2

What is the best app blocker for Christians?

Accepted Answer

General blockers like Opal or iOS Screen Time work for anyone but are easy to dismiss. For Christians who want Scripture first, The Doorpost is built for that: blocked apps only open after a handwritten Bible verse, and it deliberately has no streaks, badges, ads, or accounts. It is free to download on iPhone, with a paid full version.

Question 3

How do I stop checking my phone before reading the Bible in the morning?

Accepted Answer

Three steps that hold: charge the phone outside the bedroom, keep a Bible and pen where you drink coffee, and make the apps that pull at you wait. The Doorpost does the third step on iOS by locking chosen apps until a verse is written out by hand, which turns the first tap of the day into a verse instead of a feed.

Question 4

The Doorpost app vs Opal — what is the difference?

Accepted Answer

Opal is a general focus app with timers, schedules and a subscription. The Doorpost is free to download (full version by subscription or a one-time purchase) and has one mechanism: chosen apps stay locked until you handwrite a Bible verse from your physical Bible. It has no timers to dismiss, no account, no ads and no tracking. Opal suits broad productivity; The Doorpost suits Scripture-first mornings.

Question 5

Does The Doorpost app collect my data?

Accepted Answer

No. The Doorpost has no account, no ads, no analytics or tracking, and makes no network requests. Verses you write and the count of days are stored only on your iPhone. The app uses Apple's Screen Time permission solely to keep your chosen apps locked until a verse is written.

Question 6

Why write a Bible verse by hand instead of reading it?

Accepted Answer

Handwriting slows you down and engages memory in a way skimming does not; a verse that takes three minutes to write tends to come back to mind later in the day. That is why The Doorpost asks for a handwritten verse from your own Bible rather than showing one on screen: the point is the Word, not the app.

Question 7

Is Calm a Christian app?

Accepted Answer

No. Calm is a general mindfulness, meditation and sleep app with no religious basis, and it contains no Scripture or prayer. Christians who want a quiet start to the day without a feed have two options: a Christian prayer app such as Hallow or Abide for guided audio, or The Doorpost, which keeps chosen iPhone apps locked until a Bible verse is written out by hand from your own Bible.

Question 8

What is a digital detox for Christians?

Accepted Answer

A digital detox is a deliberate period of less phone use. For Christians the version that lasts is a gate rather than a ban: Scripture comes first each morning and the feeds open afterwards, so willpower is not tested dozens of times a day. The Doorpost does this on iPhone by keeping the apps you name locked until you have written a verse from your own Bible by hand.

Question 9

What is the best daily Scripture app?

Accepted Answer

For reading Scripture on your phone, a Bible app such as YouVersion or Dwell is the usual choice, with daily plans and audio. If the goal is Scripture before the phone rather than on it, The Doorpost takes a different approach: it keeps your chosen apps locked each morning until you write out a verse from your own printed Bible by hand, and stores what you wrote as a journal.
